The Sabi Sands Game Reserve offers unrivaled game viewing with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the reserve and the Kruger Park. The small, secluded lodge offers its guests an intimate and personal safari experience. Umkumbe Safari Lodge has three Standard Chalets and seven Superior Suites, all with views of the surrounding bushveld. Each Standard Chalet has a king-size bed or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with shower, mosquito netting, air conditioning, comfortable chairs, an in-room safe and a patio. The Superior Suites have the addition of a sleeper couch and the en-suite bathroom features double vanities, a bathtub, and an outdoor shower. Four of the suites overlook the Sand River whilst the other three look onto a small plains area and active waterhole. Birdlife is prolific, with recordings of over 500 species found in the Kruger. These include the renowned 'Big Six', namely Ground hornbill, Martial Eagle, Saddle-billed stork, Pel's fishing owl, Kori Bustard and Lappet-faced vulture. A variety of nightjars and owls can be spotted after dark.
