Be the architect of your day, design how you wish to spend your time A Safari Villa Like No Other Guests at Jaci's Sabi House have the luxury of not having to share the peace and tranquility that they find here with anyone outside of their group. For the duration of their stay this is their villa and, within the constraints of the Sabi Sand Reserve and the natural environment, they command the ship while in house. Each day is theirs to design in consultation with the professional staff, who are all well versed in guests need for privacy. The Main Lodge House features a large patio and grassed viewing area, a swimming pool and open-plan kitchen/bar as well as indoor and outdoor dining facilities. We believe that our South African inspired cuisine is best enjoyed under African skies and we pride ourselves on regular authentic outdoor dining experiences. Featuring locally produced and designed fabrics, furnishings and crafts, the main house is a show piece of custom creations including a brightly coloured calabash chandelier, woven basket wall art and a unique sofa that makes a bold decor statement. The sections of vibrant green, blue and red wall colours are anchored by dark wood antique furniture, exposed thatch ceilings and concrete floors. Follow the path through the spectacular landscaped indigenous garden to the separate Garden Rooms, fire pit and boma areas, all located just a short distance from the main house. These are boating trips through the maze-like channels and shallow lagoons of the Delta. They are conducted in traditional boats which are called Mokoros. These sturdy boats used to be handcrafted out of large Delta trees. Today most of the boats used in the Delta are fibreglass replicas, to prevent the cutting down and depletion of the Delta’s magnificent trees. Mokoros are a great way to go game viewing. As they are not motorized, they allow you to glide silently through the channels. This allows you to approach the wildlife silently and you will see more, as they are not scared off by a motor. You will see many animals that feed on the grass and reeds on the palm islands such as lechwe, sitatunga, elephant, hippo and crocodile. These trips allow you to cover more ground and should allow you to see more of the landscape, although some of the wildlife may be scared off by the motor. Fly over rivers and pools dotted with lily pads, as well as a variety of wild animals that inhabit this unique habitat. The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world, the Okavango Delta is the most unexpected wonder – water present in a desert. The broad Okavango River sinks into the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert, creating a lush and waterlogged oasis with crystal clear lagoons and channels, reeded islands and fertile floodplains. Dubbed “the river that never finds the sea”, this magical oasis spreads over more than 15 500 km² (almost 6 000 square miles) and yet is so fragile that, if it were denied water for even a decade, it would revert to a semi-desert. This breath-taking environment constantly adapts and changes with the ebb and flow of the floodwaters that seasonally inundate large portions of the Delta. Although dry for two-thirds of the year, during the winter months the rising floodwaters create a maze of marshes, small wooded islands and shallow lagoons. As relatively little water can be found elsewhere during this time, the wildlife is drawn to the clear waters of the Delta. Wildlife The Okavango Delta is home to a large number of species, including some that are specially adapted to the semi-aquatic lifestyle, like the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga antelope. Lion prides, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog may be encountered, while hippo resides in deeper channels and lagoons. Honey badgers are observed during daylight hours. Accommodation at KwaMbili consists of large Meru style safari tents and one luxury chalet. The large safari tents are under a thatched roof, protecting them from falling leaves and making them cooler in summer. The roof extends over a small private patio with table and chairs. Each tent has an en-suite shower and flush toilet, electricity and air-conditioning. As the tents are on the outskirts of the camp you will have a full uninterrupted view of the bush from your patio. One of the tents is large enough to accommodate a family of 4 or 5. The chalet is close to the main buildings and features air-conditioning, an ensuite bathroom, mosquito nets over the bed and a small private patio with table and chairs. Healthy and variety are all part of dining with delicious breakfast options include a full English breakfast with fresh seasonal fruit, yoghurt, cereals and toast. Home-made bread and fresh salads accompany the light lunch at the lodge while dinner is a mouth-watering three-course-dinner affair usually served in the outdoor boma. The eco-friendly (solar-powered) and unfenced, a place where one can feel part of the bush. Shindzela is passionate about conservation and the staff strive to make guests feel right at home. The aim is to provide an enjoyable and fulfilling experience in an exceptional wilderness area. Shindzela is situated on a private concession area (approx. 6500ha) within the Timbavati Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. This means there are no fences between the areas traversed by our guides and the Kruger National Park! This means animals have got free movement within this magnificent Greater Kruger. We are lucky enough to drive off-road into the bush following (with a respectful distance) any of the Big five animals that we may encounter. The Timbavati Reserve offers an array of different types of vegetations, bird and animal life! The safari-style tents are situated under thatch (grass-roof structures) and can be made up in either twin or double-bedded accommodation. Enjoy your morning coffee on your wooden deck or freshen up in your semi-open en-suite bathroom (shower, WC and hand basin). The camp can accommodate a maximum of 16 guests in total in 8 safari tents where you will be treated to our warm South African hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy and soak up the true African wilderness. Provided in each en-suite safari tent: linen, towels, African scented amenities such at Conditioning Shampoo, body wash and lotion and insect repellent. During the hot summer months you can make use of the corner standing fan to keep you comfortable. Shindzela’s layout encompasses of an open-plan lounge, dining room (breakfast and lunch served here) bar area overlooking a dry river bed and a small watering hole where animals flock for a drink of water during the hot summer days. The lodge also has a small swimming pool where you can enjoy your book or just stare out into the bush and an open-air boma where dinner is served. Shindzela offers two game drives per day in open 4 x 4 vehicles – one early-morning and one late-afternoon/early- evening. Your guides will endeavour to track the big mammals in the bush, inform you of the insect and plant life and point out some of the 350 bird species in the area. You can choose to substitute one game drive with a morning walking safari that usually lasts for between two and two and a half hours. During summer months the walking safaris may be of shorter duration due to the thicker vegetation and summer heat.
