We are lucky enough to drive off-road into the bush following (with a respectful distance) any of the Big five animals that we may encounter. The Timbavati Reserve offers an array of different types of vegetations, bird and animal life! The safari-style tents are situated under thatch (grass-roof structures) and can be made up in either twin or double-bedded accommodation. Each tent does not have a power charging point, however we do have a charging station in the main area. Shindzela’s layout encompasses of an open-plan lounge, dining room (breakfast and lunch served here) bar area overlooking a dry river bed and a small watering hole where animals flock for a drink of water during the hot summer days. Expansive grasslands, floodplains and mopane woodlands make this place where the Linyanti River meets the Savuti Channel one of Botswana’s most diverse habitats and a haven for wildlife. DESCRIPTION: Wilderness Savuti is situated in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, set on the productive Savuti Channel which is famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse. As part of a natural cycle, the waters of the Savuti Channel either flow strongly – a magnet for thirsty wildlife – or recede to leave behind a rich grassland. Regardless, both plains game and predators thrive, and exploring the length of this channel and its associated woodlands is thus a highlight here. Activities include day and night game drives, guided nature walks (seasonal and subject to the availability of a qualified walking guide), and boating (water levels permitting). The stylish Savuti Star Bed, overlooking the Savuti Channel and facing the Zibadianja Lagoon, to the west, offers an amazing sleep-out experience under the stars. The Linyanti has diverse and prolific wildlife, however, is most noted for its very large elephant populations which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Additionally, other game concentrations are high, and apart from abundant plains game, species such as roan, and sable antelope, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyaenas, black-backed jackals, and African wild dogs may be encountered. This area can be excellent for the rarely-seen aardvark, and aardwolf. With avian species recorded in their hundreds. This intimate camp’s en-suite accommodation is in six, canvas-and-thatch raised tents (including one family unit), all with sensational front-row views of the channel. From the camp’s expansive thatched main lounge, dining and bar areas, elevated wooden decks extend out over the channel bed. A small pool for refreshment, and fire deck for evening stories – being largely open to the bush – all ensure remarkable wildlife sightings. When the waters are low, a log-pile hide in front of camp provides a perfect setting to watch wildlife at the water's edge. Wilderness Savuti faces the renowned Savuti Channel, home to an incredible diversity of iconic African wildlife. This exceptional river system in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve has confounded locals and visitors with its mysterious ebb and flow. These days it flows past the camp, which is positioned perfectly for watching the wildlife that has adapted to thrive along this mystifying river. PRICE INCLUDES: Accommodation on a full board basis including twice daily scheduled camp activities, local drinks, laundry and park fees. HIGHLIGHTS Wilderness Savuti's home is the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, including 47 exclusive-use kilometres of the renowned Savuti Channel – exploration awaits at every turn Sleep-out at the stylish Savuti Star Bed, overlooking the Savuti Channel and facing the Zibadianja Lagoon, to the west – for a romantic experience under the stars Impressive wildlife viewing including dry-season concentrations of herds and predators, leading to magnificent water- and land-based activities OUR TIPS: Wilderness Savuti’s position on the banks of the channel makes for an exceptional Botswana safari.
