Camp Okavango is a water-based camp and game-drive activities, using safari vehicles, are not possible. During the flood season, Jacana is the quintessential water camp. The bathroom is enclosed, but roofless. The main dining area is on an elevated wooden deck between two magnificent sycamore fig trees and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Hippos and crocodiles are regularly sited. In the dry season lechwe, tsessebe, elephant, wildebeest and zebra occur here, and lions, cheetah and leopard are often sited on the floodplains. This is an area of prime importance for a host of wetland bird species, including Wattled Cranes, Pel's Fishing Owls, both species of Jacanas as well as other seldom sighted species such as Rails, Crakes and Moorhens. Expansive grasslands, floodplains and mopane woodlands make this place where the Linyanti River meets the Savuti Channel one of Botswana’s most diverse habitats and a haven for wildlife. DESCRIPTION: Wilderness Savuti is situated in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, set on the productive Savuti Channel which is famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse. As part of a natural cycle, the waters of the Savuti Channel either flow strongly – a magnet for thirsty wildlife – or recede to leave behind a rich grassland. Regardless, both plains game and predators thrive, and exploring the length of this channel and its associated woodlands is thus a highlight here.
