Situated in De Hoop Nature Reserve near the southern tip of Africa, Lekkerwater is a magnificent beach lodge. In the winter season, this spot boasts some of the finest shore-based whale watching on the planet This 34 000 hectare conservancy is convenient diversion for travellers exploring South Africa’s Garden Route. The property is perched between land and sea atop the ancient dunes of De Hoop.
This magnificent coastal reserve is famous for offering some of the world’s best land-based whale watching. During winter & spring (July and November) Southern Right Whales migrate here from Antarctica to calve and breed in the warm seas offshore. Since 1985 these waters have been designed as a Marine Protected Area and sea life has flourished. While whales are the stars of the show, guests may also look forward to sighting dolphins, seals and myriad sea birds from the comfort of Lekkerwater Beach Lodge.

Lekkerwater boasts a rich history with incredible fauna and flora, pristine beaches, rolling hills and abundant sea life.

The lodge offers a new kind of luxury as guests are able to enjoy wide-open spaces, peacefulness and privacy accompanied by gorgeous sea views and the smell of the ocean. You will not find TV’s, minibars, heated towel rails or air conditioning as this is where guests are able to fully embrace and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

There are only 7 suites that are intimate, and off-grid enhanced with simple yet elegant décor allowing for a light, bright and breezy coastal feel. All suites have a private deck overlooking the breath-taking 6 kilometre stretch of a secluded beach. The main lodge focuses on offering a home away from home hospitality and dining experience.

With floor-to-ceiling windows that deliver remarkable sea vistas from every corner of the suite and a protected outdoor deck provides a perfect oasis of privacy. Indoors, the décor takes its cue from the natural beauty of the surrounding reserve. With a colour palette of blues and greens balanced by rich organic textures, the aesthetic in each suite is a subtle mirror of the scenic beauty beyond. Cool sea breezes take the edge off summer’s heat, while a wood-burning stove in each suite offers welcome warmth when dramatic winter storms roll in.

The main lodge features a wrap-around deck offering the perfect space to admire the sunset over morning coffee or a sundowner. Meals are enjoyed family-style at the large communal table and guests are encouraged to engage with the chefs at the interactive open kitchen.
