Location

Situated on 27,000 hectares of pristine private land at the foot of the majestic Sossusvlei dunes, bordering the Namib-Naukluft Park, Namibia.
DESCRIPTION:
Surrounded by red dunes, desolate mountains and gravel plains, Kulala Desert Lodge is set at the heart of the Namib Desert. The camp’s main buildings have been built in a North African-style and constructed entirely from clay bricks with a wrap-around verandah overlooking a waterhole and the surrounding desert scenery.
A guided excursion to the famous Sossusvlei sand dunes located nearby will give you a unique desert experience, while guided nature walks, game drives and quad bike trails around the lodge’s private reserve are also offered. Cool off in the afternoons in the plunge pool or watch animals such as oryx, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, ostrich and jackal drink from the waterhole in front of the main building. One morning you could choose to go on a hot-air balloon safari where you will be served with a champagne breakfast on landing.
Wilderness Kulala Desert Lodge is ideally situated on 27,000 hectares of pristine private land at the foot of the majestic Sossusvlei dunes, surrounded by miles and miles of ancient desert. Its exclusive-use gate allows guests early access to explore Sossusvlei, one of the most remarkable and photogenic landscapes on Earth.
The vast dunefields beckon, offering thrilling adventures. An exclusive-use gate from Wilderness Kulula Desert Lodge gives you early access to Sossusvlei, one of the most remarkable landscapes on Earth. Guests can climb Big Daddy, one of the highest sand dunes in the world; hike along the 30-metre deep Sesriem Canyon, where water has carved through the rock over millennia; or take a leisurely stroll near camp along the Tsauchab River Trail. Exhilarating nature drives and guided walks spotting desert-adapted wildlife are also on offer, as well as a family favourite – a guided exploration of the spectacular gravel plains on electric-powered fat-tyre bikes. Perhaps even more unforgettable: take it all in from above, hot air ballooning** over this fantastical landscape. A rooftop sleep-out under millions of stars completes this amazing desert journey.
**additional cost applies.
The accommodation at Kulala Desert Lodge comprises 23 thatched and canvas "kulalas" ("to sleep" in Oshiwambo) with en-suite bathrooms and verandas. One of these is a family room with two bedrooms that share one bathroom and a wooden deck. Additionally, four en-suite kulalas are set up in pairs, each pair sharing a large wooden deck. Each unit is built on a wooden platform to catch the cooling breezes and has a deck on the flat rooftop where bedrolls are placed for guests to sleep under the myriad stars that Namibia's clear skies portray.
With its North African inspiration, the main guest area houses a lounge, bar and dining area. A plunge pool irresistibly draws the eye out onto the desert landscape and a wrap-around veranda offers perfect views of the waterhole in front of the lodge. Early morning drives depart to the famous Sossusvlei dunes, while a selection of nature walks and drives are also available in the private reserve. Hot air ballooning and camel rides are among the more unusual adventures on offer.
