Madikwe, meaning “Africa in its majesty”, sits in the uniquely beautiful and malaria-free North West Province, close to the Botswana border. It is one of the largest and most exclusive private game reserves in South Africa. Madikwe’s wooded-hills give way to flat savannah plains, characterized by deep-red earth and sekelbos thickets extending into the dryer yellow-sanded Kalahari plains as you make your way west into the 75 000-hectare reserve. A beautiful diversity of biomes roamed freely by Africa’s notorious Big Five as well as many other mammal species. Twice daily game drives are conducted by qualified guides in open vehicles, giving you the best opportunities to view the wide range of animals in the Madikwe Reserve, with frequent sightings of the Big 5. Special SADC Rate R5,299 per person per night sharing. Book within 45 days of travelling. Valid until 31 May 2024. HIGHLIGHTS The uniqueness of Madikwe lies in its diversity – not only the complexity of biomes but the range of fauna and flora that is a result of the changing landscapes – all of which can be covered in a three-hour safari. The Kalahari plains in the western sections of park transition into more recognizable lowveld savannah and acacia thickets, while the hillsides and riverine sections provide more wooded areas, providing the perfect environment for an extraordinary array of wildlife. OUR TIPS Madikwe Safari Lodge is one of South Africa’s very best family-friendly safari destinations. Being a family-owned lodge, they strongly believe in quality family time, creating unforgettable memories in nature that get passed from generation to generation. The experienced child-minders also allow parents to enjoy some relaxing time to themselves, while children are treated to an array of activities, both fun and educational. You don’t even have to leave your luxury accommodations at the Madikwe Safari Lodge to learn about the fascinating animal life that lives within the reserve. Drop your kids off at Lelapa Lodge’s Eco House or Safari Club, where they can play, craft, and learn more about the local wildlife through an interactive learning programme. By the end of your holiday, your kids may be able to teach you a thing or two about the Big Five, Secret Seven, and the rest of the Madikwe animal gang.

  • Last Word Madikwe Bush House

Last Word Madikwe Bush House Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Reserve the-bush-house06.jpg the-bush-house05.jpg the-bush-house115.jpg the-bush-house06.jpg 1/18 Location Madikwe Big 5 Game Reserve, North West Province DESCRIPTION: The Bush House is not your typical Game lodge. The Lodge is set in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. It is an old farmhouse that after years of family laughter and happiness has been transformed into an inviting and relaxing residence that encourages guests to kick off their shoes and unwind. What makes The Bush House different? Perhaps it’s in the people who make you feel so warmly welcome, at the bar after your game drive, at the brunch table, or in the boma for dinner under the stars. The staff prides themselves on really caring for guests and being attentive to their needs. As an owner managed Lodge the personal touch is an integral part of the service. Perhaps it’s in the sense of the bushveld. The dust of the elephant herds, the closeness of the rhino, the fleeting glimpse of the leopard… or the massive power of the buffalo coming down to drink at the waterhole within meters of the front lawn. It could be the luxuries you enjoy. The sumptuous bushveld cuisine or the service so close you only have to lift a finger. Or maybe it’s more about the whole experience than a single sighting. More about the memories you made while you were one with nature as you pulled the bushveld around your shoulders like a blanket, and in a strange, familiar way you felt completely at home. The Bush House does not have to be booked out exclusively, each room can be sold individually. That’s why people come back to The Bush House. Again and again. For most of our guests it’s just like that, like coming home – even for the first time. There are six en-suite bedrooms. Four of them have private verandas where you can sit and contemplate the world, one overlooks the garden and waterhole with another having the soothing sounds of a water feature outside the sliding door. All rooms form part of the main lodge so there are no unnecessary long walks to your room. The Bush House Chefs, who together create a wonderful culinary repertoire, whether it is breakfast in the garden, afternoon tea packed with treats or a fire-lit dinner in the Boma under the stars. Enjoy relaxing in the large shaded garden overlooking the best waterhole in Madikwe. Lounge at the pool while the staff take care of your every need. Enjoy a friendly game of cricket, rugby or soccer on the lawn. Two game drives are conducted daily in the Madikwe Game Reserve under the expert care of a trained guide, take a walk through our private nature trail which is within the electrified boundaries of camp. A water point is located close to the front opening and elephants regularly drink from this point or walk right past the front of The Hide. The roof which is just above ground level is reinforced and can carry the weight of any elephant that might wander across the top. The Hide is accessed from a path within the Lodge garden, or from the swimming pool, so guests can safely move along the walkway and into the tunnel without being seen by the animals and in complete safety. The front of The Hide has an expanded metal grid which is completely open and out of sight but can be quickly dropped if anyone is feeling nervous. OUR TIPS The pathways, tunnel and hide are all lit at night so are available for use by guests 24 hours a day. Those guests with walkers and in wheelchairs can also use The Hide as the walkway has ramps that ensure ease of access. Viewing of all the visiting animals and birds close up is truly spectacular and offers a whole new dimension in game viewing.
